My favourite manga: Fullmetal Alchemist

Short. Sweet. Awesome.

Those three words do not describe me at all, but they definitely describe the Fullmetal Alchemist manga.

It’s a little bit of a different take on a book this week, but I think most people will agree with me so who cares.

Fullmetal Alchemist follows Ed and Al Elric as they try to find the philosopher’s stone to get their bodies back, which they lost in an accident when they tried to bring their mother back from the dead.

One brother has a metal arm and leg, while the other is a living suit of armour.

Sounds cool right?

This series is by far the best manga series I have ever read. I think I’ve read most of the chapters two or three times. I’ve seen the anime about five times but I have yet to see the live-action Netflix remake (for fear of it ruining the series for me).

The manga series literally has it all. One chapter you’ll be laughing at some stupid thing one of the characters did, and the next you’ll be balling your eyes out.

There’s mystery, drama, romance, action, and a little bit of the “supernatural” thrown in there.

I think my favourite part of the whole manga series is the fact that we can actually see Ed grow taller throughout the chapters. It’s nothing obvious at first glance, but if you compare images of Ed from the beginning of the manga series to images of him at the end, there is a noticeable height change.

We see height differences in other mangas, but its almost always just the way that the character is drawn. In this case we actually see the character grow.

It’s explained why he grows so much through the manga, and it’s a pretty cool reason, but I don’t want to spoil it here. Instead you have to go read the manga and find out yourself.

Let me know what mangas you guys like, or what your favourite parts of Fullmetal Alchemist are. I could talk about it for days.

Next week I’m gonna take a look at everyone’s favourite jungle man, and what his true story is, not the cartoon story.
