2019 is coming to a close…and with it, we must vote on our favourite books of 2019 right?

Well Goodreads is already ahead of the game, and has given its winners of the best books of 2019 already.

Some of these I am not surprised by at all, and some are a bit of a shock.

Top 5 Tuesday: Surprising Reads of 2019

Hello fellow readers. Today’s Top 5 Tuesday is brought to you by Bionic Book Worm. She’s done a fantastic job of giving Top 5 list topics for two whole years now, so if you guys have any ideas for a new list, send it her way!

This latter half of 2019 has been a slower reading time for me. I haven’t found as much time to sit back and read as I would like, but I have managed to finish a good number of books or stories.

#1 The Snow Queen
I am a fan of short stories, so I wasn’t worried about not enjoying this piece, but I was surprised by how much I liked it. It was a fun, quick, and entertaining piece to read.

#2 Mistborn
I didn’t realize how interested in this book series I would be. It had an interesting premise when I heard about it, but I was hooked by the first few chapters. I can’t wait to dive into books 2 and 3 in 2020.

#3 Fire and Blood
A political book of the Game of Thrones universe. Sounds like it could be interesting, but I wasn’t too sure at first. Turns out, this was one of my favourite books in the Game of Thrones series.

#4 The Devil’s Apprentice
Pleasantly surprised won’t do this book any justice, but that is how I felt when I read this books. I was a bit indifferent at first, but it quickly turned into a book I thoroughly enjoyed.

#5 The Wheel of Time
I am not necessarily surprised by how good each book has been, but instead I am excited about how entertaining the series continues to be, despite it nearing the 10th or so book I am reading.

What books that you read surprised you this year? Let’s talk about them in the comments below.
